Carpet Protection Fit For a President

May 23rd 2011 only days after the departure of HRH Queen Elizabeth II saw the arrival of yet another important visitor to Ireland… this time, U.S. President Barack Obama as part of his European visit. Mr Obama made an address to a large crowd gathered outside the original House of Parliament at College Green in the centre of Dublin.

The address was delivered to a crowd of around 100,000 people from a 480 square meter stage erected for the occasion. Weather on the day and preceding days was expected to include some heavy showers accompanied by gusty wind which added additional problems for the preparations, not least of which was protecting the 480 meters of carefully chosen blue stage carpet.

To solve that problem, Shane Pollard from Magnum Events called in leading carpet protection specialist Igoe International who recommended Protecta Carpet, a clear, self adhesive carpet protection film to keep the carpet dry for the big occasion. Mr Pollard commented "We were delighted with this carpet film and how quick and easy it was to apply. We were very concerned that the carpet might get wet but thanks to great adhesion, the carpet film stuck firmly to the carpet and it kept it clean and dry.

The weather was unusually wet and windy so we had to work fast with the carpet laying team. Overall we were delighted with how the job turned out and all ran smooth as clockwork."

Dublin pulled out all the stops to mark this special event. An eclectic mix of musicians, sports people and actors took to the stage at College Green, Dublin on Monday afternoon to entertain the crowd prior to the arrival of the President.

Among the top acts who took to the stage to entertain the crowd were… Jedward - just back from their Eurovision appearance, Westlife, Imelda May, Sharon Shannon, Mundy, The Coronas, Mike Scott and Steve Wickham of the Waterboys, Ryan Sheridan, the National Chamber Choir and soprano Celine Byrne are among the who's who list of performers.

Actors Saoirse Ronan, Daniel Day Lewis, Brendan Gleeson, sports stars Irish Rugby Captain Brian O'Driscoll just back from his Leinster team's Heineken Cup win , Kilkenny Hurling legend Henry Shefflin and Soccer star Robbie Keane were among the star studded guest list.

The finale was a memorable address by Mr Obama from exactly the same place from where previous US President Bill Clinton spoke in 1995.
